When disaster strikes, every second counts. Neighborhood Emergency Response Teams (NERTS) bridge the gap between first responders and the community, equipping trained volunteers to assist in local emergencies, support response efforts, and enhance overall community resilience. NERT are grassroots-led initiatives where neighbors come together to prepare for large scale emergencies such as hurricanes, floods, or disasters. Through hands-on training, NERT volunteers gain essential skills to respond effectively during emergencies—protecting their families, neighbors, and communities when it matters most.
Mobile County Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD)
What is a VOAD?
VOADs are associations of organizations that lead response efforts, communicate urgent needs to the wider National VOAD network, and provide assistance to communities affected by disaster. By adhering to the 4 Cs (Communication, Cooperation, Coordination, and Collaboration), State/Territory VOADs effectively provide relief.
