There will be seven emergency cold-weather shelters open tonight for this extreme weather event.

Those in need of cold-weather shelter anywhere in Mobile County, call 2-1-1 or text your ZIP code to 898-211 for help.   

 

WHEN

 

Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 5 p.m.

  • The daily list may change; media and social media updates will be issued accordingly.
  • This sheltering event will continue nightly until the cold weather system passes and temperatures return to a safe range.

  • McKemie Place (women only) • Call 251-287-2225 for instructions (COVID test required)
  • Salvation Army (men only) • 251-438-1625 • 1009 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36604

 

  • Theodore Church of God (families, men, women) • 6360 Theodore Dawes Road, Theodore, AL 36582
  • Dearborn YMCA (families; single women) • 321 N Warren Street, Mobile, AL 36603
  • MUNICIPALITIES (no pets except service animals; overnight Jan. 27 concludes this activation for these two shelters):
    • City of Prichard Ronald K. Davis Safe House • 251-609-2061 • 2805 Whistler St., Prichard, AL 36610 (open 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. for City of Prichard residents)
    • City of Semmes Warming Center at the Semmes Safe Room  • 9010 Forest Street, Semmes, AL 36575 (open 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. for Semmes-area residents; bring bedding, medications, food, folding chairs)

 

The WAVE Transit will waive fees on fixed routes for those going to shelters (request to go to Waterfront Rescue Mission, 279 North Washington Ave.) or call 2-1-1 if transportation is needed.

 

 

WHAT ELSE

 

  • Anyone in Mobile County needing cold-weather shelter should call 2-1-1 or go to Waterfront Rescue Mission for assistance. 
  • Multiple organizations are assisting this sheltering effort. If additional cold-weather shelter sites open before the next update, individuals will be directed or transported to the appropriate location as needed. 
  • Please encourage those without adequate heating or the unhoused to seek shelter. The need for coordinated sheltering is great.
  • For those with household pets, climate-controlled pet accommodations are available at Theodore Church of God (City of Mobile Animal Services) and Waterfront Rescue Mission/Dearborn YMCA (Mobile County Animal Control).
